So Wrong

[Top: thrifted; Pants; Francesca's; Loafers: Cole Haan; Necklaces: Joyo; Watch: Nixon; Ring: Aloha Sunday

Conventional wisdom indicates that a top with puffy sleeves and shoulder pads is just wrong. But my newfound love for thrifting and of elements of 80's and 90's fashion throws that idea out the window. I mixed this top with the more current baroque-style pants and my favorite geometric jewelry to give it a more modern edge. But as Heidi Klum told us in last weeks' Project Runway, going all the way 80's is just wrong. (Seriously, two of my favorite designers there created a strapless gold prom dress with the bottom 18 inches covered in ruffles. Shudder.)

Summer Neutrals

[Top: Forever 21 (old); Jeanns: Gap; Scarf: H&M (years old); Sandals: Madewell, Bangles: SoWa Vintage]

Today is match-your-outfit-to-your-home-decor day. Just kidding. That's only a coincidence. The real inspiration for this outfit came from my friend Lauren, who posted about the mix of neutrals and whites she wanted to wear when leaving for her honeymoon earlier this summer. I loved the carefree summer vibe, and am already mourning it.

Menswear Moment

[Blouse: J.Crew factory; Pants: Gap (old); Necklace: J.Crew factory; Shoes: Sperry; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Earrings: BaubleBar; Nails: Essie Lilacism; Ring: Old Navy]

I wouldn't say my style is man-repelling, but more man-admiring. Meaning, I love taking a menswear approach to how I dress. Flat shoes? Yes please. Button downs? Yup. Straight, tailored pants? Uh-huh. Before you call me crazy, taket at look at this, this, or this and tell me how chic it looks.  So, you can imagine how happy I was when the #StyleMeAugust prompt a couple weeks ago was Menswear Moment.

I'm also trying to get some serious wear out of my Sperrys before Labor Day hits. Boat shoes don't exactly scream fall and winter, do they? Unless they're made of fur or flannel, which I haven't seen yet. Sperry, are you listening? Get on that.

Ladylike Print Mixing

[Striped Shirt: Forever 21; Cardigan: J.Crew Factory (old); Jacket: Forever 21 (old) ; Jeans: James Jeans via Gilt; Necklace: J.Crew; Earrings: BaubleBar; Shoes: Cole Haan (old)]

I've loved seeing all the fun print mixing this season and wanted to try it out with a few pieces I had. I bought the striped shirt earlier this spring from Forever 21 to have as a good staple, and realized it was the same color tone as a leopard-esque cardigan I got from the J.Crew outlet a few years ago. I also remembered this fun houndstooth cape-like jacket I bought at Forever going into my junior year of college. I think it gives the look a Mad Men feel. Who says bargain purchases have to be thrown away after a season?
